Social Proof can be as basic as the old saying we’ve all heard: “Well, if everybody else is doing it, it must be o.k..” Or, like my next example, it may not be quite so obvious.
My Sister sometimes works as a bartender, and the first thing she does when she gets to work is pre-load the tip jar with a few one Dollar bills and five Dollar bills of her own money. She Says it cuts down on the ‘cheap-skates’ and increases her tip amounts every night. Because, everyone sees the paper money in the tip jar and feels that must be how everyone else tips, So I will tip at least one Dollar too!
We Can All Apply This Simple, Yet Powerful, Tactic To Attraction Marketing
One instrumental piece of Social Proof is the use of testimonials. Being able to see what several other people are saying about a product, service or person gives us the ‘O.K.’ to act on our thoughts. It not only shows us that others are a purchasing a product, but what they liked or disliked about it! So the faithful human behavior kicks-in; If others are buying it, I will too!
Not to mention, if you throw in a little fear of loss, it’s a done deal.
You might be thinking “Oh great….I don’t have any testimonials… and how am I going to get them?”
- Well, you could simply ask for testimonials from your current customers. Or, if you are just starting out, you could ‘Pre-Load’ The Tip Jar by having a few friends write some positive points that they like about you and your products.
- Maybe, you have sold 3,000 e-books. If so, then post it.
- Maybe, you have spoken at a seminar. If so, then post it.
- Maybe, you have 28,508 Followers on Twitter Ask others if they would like to join over 28,000 other people who have decided you are worth hearing from.
The point is this, if you have anything you feel would give others the Social Proof they need to believe that their decision to purchase from you, is backed up by other people doing the same thing.
Please take note of this: Do Not Fake your testimonials- everyone will see right through it and never return!
